Olya, and what do ordinary people do if it happens that someone falls ill and they are not rich, but there is need to have treatment in the hospital? Or in a case if an urgent help is required or there is a terrible toothache? If a family is on benefit can they afford to have medical insurance? If not what shall they do?

I left Russia in April 2007, and at that time even an ambulance asked you about your insurance. You could have free urgent help but because it’s urgent. At that time if you were not a pregnant woman but needed an ultrasound test you should pay for it (though I had my insurance). I wish the situation would change for the best. As for National Health Service in England (Russian analogue – система здравоохранения) there are a lot of problems as well, and with a new Tory Government it seems we will be even worse off.
