And to return to our discussion on shredding - I have very recently read a recipe where the author instructed the reader to use cooked shredded chicken breast (but there was a picture of pieces of chicken that looked like they were just ripped by hand) - so the Irish/Scottish usage is present in the U.S. as well. Who knew!?
