I have been a teacher of English for 40 years. Taught both the language and methods of teaching, wrote 12 books to help my students master spoken English and did a special course for university teachers in the USA. I've been to 5 states and 8 cities and towns.
Thank you.

Wow, very impressive! What states and cities have you been to?
We are from Belarus and my aunt taught herself English just by reading a dictionary and when she came to the USA she got a job helping immigrants find work. My mom only studied the English language at high school in Belarus and just last year got a job here in Washington as a medical interpreter.
I am very impressed with people who know more than one language. I, myself try to speak Russian as much as I can for practice because I know that it is easy to forget, and grammatically I am probably not very good.

Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Colorado, California and New York.
It was a great experience. It was after the trip that I began to write for my students. America inspired me
By the way I was born in Belorussia. My dad, a retired military man, came back to Belorussia. Sorry to say neither dad nor mum are with us any bore. They are buried in Orsha. Your parents are sure to know this town in the Vitebsk region.

hi everyone!
Got interested in the topic when I saw a title "English speaking room". I am currently on Christmas vacations, but study abroad. And of course we have been tought in English. So I thought it would be a good opportunity to use my English in order not to forget it while I'm at home. You know probably how quick it can be:)
However, I must say after 1,5 years of studying it is way easier to adapt between two (or wait...three!) languages First time, a year ago when I went home for NY, I was mixing English and Russian words all the time:) And my head was about to expload
well, hope to hear from you soon:)
Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!

Thanks!))
I'm doing my master's in Environmental Sciences and have been studying in 3 countries so far during the last 1,5 years (Hungary, Greece and Sweden). The next semester I'm writing my thesis and I planned to go to Berlin but changed my mind to Sicily It's not related to the thesis topic or research, it's just looking for another place to live:) I thought "Why not?" and here we go)) We don't have classes anymore - we don't have to be physically present at the uni, so I thought it would be great to go to some interesting place while I have such an opportunity:)
In the next few months I'll have another language issue - Italian, cause I heard on Sicily they don't really like to speak English
And how're you doing? I've read that you are an English language teacher, right? I remember my English teacher from high school, she was and is the greatest one I ever had. I think we all were lucky to get to know her - very devoted to what she was doing.
What do you consider as main challenges in your work?

To help students understand that any language isn't just a subject to learm and forget but a true mean of communication and getting information.

Hi, dear girls!
I'm Olga and I'm glad to have such an opportunity to practise my English!
Originally I'm from Kazahstan, but because of my father's job (he is a geologist) I have travelled all over the Soviet Union. Finally we returned to Kazahstan, I got married and we moved to Pskov.
I fell in love with this city because it is unique. Being ancient (more than 1100 years old) Pskov has still had something of the old.
When I came here I walked along the streets, watched at local churches and admired their stateliness and simplicity meanwhile. I was puzzled why people going by didn't feel the same!
I thought : how is it strange, Maybe some woman standing here thousand years ago saw the same walls, the river, and I have a link (or THE link?) with her.
So now I'm proud to be Pskovian.
I like to watch English movies but sometimes I need subtitles

I'm so glad to meet you here! If you remember me, my name is Maria Dyomina, I'm from the Enterpreter's department of the Ecology and Humanitarian Institute, the year of entry 1997.
I'm really grateful for all you have given to me - both the knowledge of the language, and just for your attitude to your students and to the people in general.
You are one of the Teachers whom I will remember for ever. THANK YOU!
In breaf, about myself. After the graduation, I've been working as an enterpreter for about 2 years in Lipetsk (mostly speaking), which certainly improved my language a lot. After that I changed a job, going to the commercial company. Besides, I went on with translations, now as a freelancer, for about 2 or 3 years. Then I took the position in my company wichc didn't allow me to go on with translations, as it took all my time but gave me quite a satisfaction.
At the mometn I'm the mother of a 10-months old boy, taking care of him at home, and looking for nice recipies for my family members from time to time
And I'm really very glad and pleasantly surprised to meet you here!!!

I do live in Lipetsk, and I'd love to meet you!!!! We are living in Voenny Gorodok, not far from you if you didn't change your appartment.
I suggest that we wait a little, untill it's wormer and less snow on the roads, and we shall meet. For instance, we may choose for the meeting the Herows Square, and the park thereby, as long as I'm planning going out there with my son in spring.
How are your children doing, I suppose you have a few grand children already?
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Kindest regards, Masha.

Dear Masha, I'm looking forward to meeting you. We have lived in Gornyatskay Street since 2008. It's not far from you: just behind the shop '"Start". So I didn't think there might be a problem to choose where to meet. Bikhanof garden is a great place really.
My chidren live in Yekaterinsburg now, though Denis is moving to Moscow in February. I have 4 wjnderful grandchildren: Maeia, Alexander, Natasha and Olga who is 8 months. I miss them very much. Hope to see you soon.

Thank you for your kindness
I'd like to tell you how I began to learn English. When I was at school we studied it with dull and boring books, so I didn't like it.
But once my parents took me to a summer camp on the Black sea coast. And in a few days the Principle asked us if anybody knew English. Some American teenagers were living at that time at the nearest camp. So our camp counselors wanted us to join the Americans.
It was a great time! I realized the use of speaking foreign language.
But afterwards I got back to my school and returned to humdrum books.
Only the Beatle's song YESTERDAY (one of my favourite songs) made me become interested in English/
I began to translate other songs, but most of all were stupid in Russian
The tag is: it is not important how do you begin to learn it, just do it. (it is not a latent advertisement )

Good evening, dear girls! Our site is like a trap for me. I have realized that I spent a lot of time here. Unfortunately in the prejudice of other things.
Every day I say to myself: Just a look, and 2 hours later I make myself turn away
I'd like to ask you about the ways you improve your English, do you read books or listen to the BBC, or watch movies?
As for me, being a really book lover, I can't read in English. It's not my native language, so I have to think twice and it makes me tired. On my opinion reading is a pleasure but not a work. So I try to listen to interviews, some shows in Youtube, to watch movies. Yesterday I loaded "King's speech" with K.Fert. Remembering his Mr.Darcy I look forward to weekend.
