NatalyS,
I am so jelous. I love shopping Embarassed And especially nowadays when I see the little cute things for the baby it makes me almost cry girl_in_love

Tatsik,
It is so great. Here it has been very windy and raining. And yesterday it started snowing. It is still snowing now. It is beautiful. But I see that this country is not prepared to have this kind of snow. They are all freaked out. And the infrastructure is completely messed for the moment. The trains are 2 hours late. The roads are closed. I think I was quite used to Switzerland, where they normally expect the snow in winter. And they start to clean as soon as it starts to snow. So all is fine. We were just putting our mountain shoes and going to work, where we would change to our lovely office high hill shoes girl_wink
But it is so beautifull outside. I took some pics this morning. I will them here as soon as I upload them.

Jez,
Congratulation on your promotion! It is nice to be with the family. I miss them so much. And I know what you feel like. I always get morally stressed to see all the people you want to help but can not. I always get the same feelings after my trip to back home. Especially after the wedding I found out even worst cases. Being myself from a capital from a well being family, I didn't know to what point people in regions suffer. My hubby is from the village. And I wanted to help every 2nd person, and I couldn't. All I could do was to give them a smile, to warm their hearts and to try to put the hope back to their hearts, to help them see the world in a brighter coulours. I was so down after all this. It took myself 3 months to recover from this state of mind. And I am now considering to change my career once I'll start working, so I will be more of a help to this world.

And yes looks like we are having a girl. That is what they told us in our last scan. I am quit happy abt it, and started to get the nursury and all the baby staff prepared accordingly. But friends warned us to have it in more neutral colours as they had a pink bump as well which turned out to be blue. So we will know for sure once the baby is born. And thanks for all the nice wishes. I wish all the best to your family and especially to your adorable son!

Splattie,
It is nice to enjoy a drink over a good book. I am so bad in this wacko1 When I see a good book in stores, I can not stop reading it. So sometimes if it is a small book, I tend to finish it beofre my hubby founds the thing he wanted. And then I feel guilty abt it. As I read the book that I didn't buy yet. And I buy it. When my hubby asks why I am not reading I answer that I have already done in store Embarassed. So he is used to that as well. But the thing I like is to read the same book with my friends and than to discuss it. So far I have not found the one who reads in french here. I'd like keep practicing it at least this way.

Scorpion,
Hello, How are you? How are you feeling these days? Of yourse you are always welcome in our warm corner!

Splattie,
The financial crisis that the world is going through now is a big heaven for the big shot guys. Yes it is difficult, yes it is hard but it is even harder to move the production to a developing country, forcing thousands of people to lose ther jobs in Europe. In a normal situation they have to go through a long courts and procedures, paying husge fines or redundancy packages. But this kind of financial crysis situation doesn't play in favour of common people. It makes the reach reacher and the poor poorer. But some brilliant guys make fortunes out of this situation, an Example Mr. Soros.
In our very own circle of friends there is every 2nd banker that got fired or redunded over the last year. And it is all because of this. The huge companies are movin the entire financial service to India that means the office of 10 000 people will be closed and all those accountants will be jobless during this year. The company explains it as a cost cutting solution! So the industrials and the CEOs think of it in profit terms in stead in human life terms.
From the other side, I am not completly against it. IMHO These people, in the developed countries get so comfy, they do not want to work hard anymore. Coming from developing countries ourselves we had to study a lot and to work a lot to get what we have now. BUt they do not undestand that. So this is an opportunity for them to reevaluate things and to have a plan B.

I read french, but it has been a while since I practiced the written french. If you would like, we could have a "Book club" where we read the same book and discuss it...

P.S. The same proposal would apply to those who wish to read an english book. I am always ready to read Smile

Jez,
Good idea. I will dig out my french books now. They are all stored in behidn of the storage room due to a shortage of space. (My hubby is preparing for his final qualification exams so we have books all over the appartment). Or we could look up in some internet source to read and discuss the same book.
This is concerning the reading in English as well. So far I have read only prenancy and parenthood books in this language. Well of course my MSc was in it as well but none of English literature wacko1

Splattie,
As you said. There is always targetting one group of people to bring up the issues that would make more people to react and dropping other group that suffer at the same level or more. This is all about politics. And besides the financial crysis wouldn't be there for always! Yes it is the case nowadays, but in two years time I think it will be gone and bright minds take an opportunity of it. Actually we are analysing the housing market as the prices are going down, as we want to get a mortgage at the bottom level and to enjoy the fruits at the ceiling level. The same for the companies, the smart bosses wouldn't cut all the humain capital now, as when the time of investment comes they will not be ready. And they know it! If you look to the job markets even in financial sphere it is wide open! The banks are still hiring young people to graduate prorams. As they know that now they can hire them with the smallest package of the salaries possible and exploit them to maximum while still teaching and preparing them for the brighter future tomorrow. This will pay off. And the ones that are not looking in the long run terms are just doing the job cuts. But by now major job cuts are done in financial world. They are now preparing for gaining back their previous presstige and actually even becoming better and this is so possible. As the young professionals are not demanding now due to the situation. So there are always two sides of the coin that they do not disclose to a greater public.
It is time to make some personal and professional development to answer to even harder demands of the markets in future. And the smart ones are doing that continuing their education or obtaining more qualification. I think this is way better rather than sitting around with shaky knees and expecting getting fired every other second.

Hi, girls! A very amusing talk about books in English. girl_in_love Splattie
I've read all the books by Sharon Owens but one about wedding as I bought some in the Rodos and enjoyed them very much. Then I bought "Impossible" by Daniella Still and again it is something out of the world. Olga has just presented me with 3 more books by the author. I've already started reading. Tanya, what about "Coolinary for Lazybones" by Darya Dontsova? It has been a bestseller for some years. I' ve bought it for you. It's not a masterpiece of publishing art but you might be interested to learn what Russian Laxy Suzies like to cook. Yahoo! Yahoo! Yahoo!

Scorpion509,
Get well soon! All my wishes of health are going towards you and the bump Wink
Do not worry about taking the antibiotics as they were prescribed by the OB. They know which ones you can take and which ones not to recommend. When I got cold I mostly drunk the boiled water with loads of lemon and a spoon of honey in it. Looking to how I am eating the lemons themselves my hubby tried as well. I was laughing afterwards saying well these are not the clementines Smile What we won't do for the sake of kids Wink
And if you go to the special shops they have the rosehip berries that are very good too. You just put one cup of them in a big thermow with 3 spoons of honey in the night and drink this Immune booster in the morning. It helps a lot! It did in my case.

Splattie,
Come on, are not you scared of the nightmares? I am having trouble to sleep because of them. I started to worry but I read that it is normal during pregnancy as we worry a lot. I told couple of them to my hubby and he got scared asking me not to see those kind of dreams anymore. So now we have excluded all the sad movies, books, even the news! I try to think positively and kind of meditate before going to sleep. It worked for this night and I had a wonderfull sleep.

NatalyS, and other girls,
So if you know some good positive books let's start reading it Smile

Danielle Steel is a very well regarded romance author, mainly read by women, although I have to admit I only read one of her books. I forget what it was called, but it was about some Russian princess who came to live in the States after the Revolution. The story was good, as well as the character development. It should also be noted that most of her books are made into movies.

While not my first choice for a book club, if the public opinion is overwhelmingly in favor of Danielle Steel's books, I will gladly join.

Splattie - Irish Murders sounds interesting. I assume these are true stories...

Ayisha - you have definitely taken the right steps to limit your exposure to the more disturbing news/media/information. I hope you no longer have any nightmares!

Scorpion - congratulations on your pregnancy! I have never read anything by Sydney Sheldon, but if we are to judge by his TV career, the books should be fun and lighthearted. I vote YES Smile

Jez,
I think I have heard about this autor. Especially after you mentioned this particular roman about the Russian Princesse. I almost bought it once, but got carried away by the Chronicles of Hitler! I couldn't finish this book though. And offered it as a gift to another friends who admires Hitler a lot, thinking he was a genius who misused his intellectual capacities. So if everybody else is quite excited about the author you mentioned, let's grab one his nice books and start reading it. friends
And I didn't hear about Sydney Sheldon, so I am quite open to any suggestions.

Regarding the avoidance of the negative that we are practicing since last 2 days. It is working well. I didn't have nightmares tonight either. And I am so glad. I hope to continue like this in a positive note.

Splattie,
Thanks a lot for thinking of me Rose But if the other ESR readers are interested go ahead and post it. Just put some note in the beginning so I won't read that particular post Wink I think I will manage to. Embarassed

NatalyS,
If this doesn't concern the economic and financial world, I am more than happy to read the books by Danielle Steel. But in the circle of friends that we are now, we are all financial econimists, so we end up discussing those matters, that bores us at the end. So when I proposed to their wives to read smth else and to discuss smth else, they gave me some strange looks. You see how people can get narrow minded after all those "Old Boy" school university degrees unknown

Alright, ladies. Since the consensus is Danielle Steel, then let's read Danielle Steel. I looked up her books online, and this one seems to have pretty good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Promise-Danielle-Steel/dp/0440170796/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
